"E" Certificate Courses
Course Content for "E" Certificate Course
The "E" Certificate is designed for the parent/coach who may or may not have any previous soccer playing or coaching experience. The curriculum focuses on the development of the player, both individually and as part of the team. The emphasis will be to build on the player's technical development by applying tactical concepts within a team environment. The candidate must 16 years of age or older.
"E" Certificate Course Schedule
Objectives:
- To prepare coaches working with players U-12 and older by expanding their knowledge and understanding of the technical and tactical demands of the game and the development process necessary for players these ages.
- To provide an understanding of practical coaching methodology and the framework necessary to prepare players and a team for competition.
- To prepare coaches for whom this represents their final coaching course, as well as, those who plan to continue to further their coaching education.
Curriculum (18 hours):
Classroom / Theory
- Methods of Coaching, Team Management, Tactics, Laws of the Game, and Care and Prevention of Injuries.
Field / Practical
- Dribbling, Passing, Receiving, Shooting, Heading, Goalkeeping, Defending, and Attacking.
Comprehensive Assessment & Review
- Practice Coaching and a non graded take home exam on tactics and methods. Attendance of all 18 hours is mandatory.
Fee
- $40 (effective September 1, 2005)
Duration
The E Certificate Course is an 18 hour course. Attendance is mandatory to pass course.
Examination
There is a non-graded take-home examination on tactics and methods.
Facilities
A classroom with blackboard is needed. A field and/or gymnasium will be needed for practical demonstrations and in case of inclement weather.
Players
Middle School aged players are needed for practical sessions. Site Coordinators are to coordinate with the course Instructor regarding the number of players and time players will be needed.
Applications
The minimum number of candidates is 12. The maximum number of candidates is determined by the size of the facility. Class size is limited to 20 candidates for the months of December, January, and February. An additional instructor is required for field sessions when the number of candidates reaches 25. The number of candidates is set one week before the course begins according to the number of instructors required. (See Newly Approved Procedures Sheet)
Fees
Fees for candidates taking the E Certificate course are:
- $40 per candidate (effective September 1, 2005)
The site coordinator is responsible for the accuracy of each candidate's registration form. The site coordinator is also responsible for collecting fees for all candidates.
Payment for the course should accompany the course paperwork. Checks should be made payable to your club or league, the club or league should then issue one check for the amount due for the course made payable to VYSA.
Registration
Each candidate must complete a registration form. Please make sure all information has been included and that the information is legible. It is the site coordinator's responsibility to keep attendance.
The site coordinator should turn all registration forms and payments to the course instructor after the completion of the course. The instructor will indicate whether each candidate passed or failed the course and sign each form.

Post-Course Action
Follow up with the instructor to see that all paperwork and payments have been sent to the VYSA State Office within 14 days of the completion of the course.
General
Applicants should bring a soccer ball; training suit, sweat suit, or any form of action clothing; gym shoes; soccer cleats; and writing materials.
It is important that you establish a communications scheme in the event of inclement weather.
Course certificates will be sent directly to the student coaches successfully completing the course by the VYSA State Office. Prompt submission of the completed, signed registration forms and payment of any amounts due is, therefore, imperative.
The Site Coordinator is permitted to attend this course at no charge.
